I napped and I should have told you.

Somewhere along the way, I adopted the idea that it is not okay to sit, rest, or nap. For as long as I can remember I have defined success by verbs. Conquer, work, do, accomplish, action. Since when is it not okay for a mother to sit with their children, or God forbid just sit somewhere quietly, alone? I LOVE sharing my life on social media, especially through insta/fb “stories” because it allows me to connect with friends, share ideas and hopefully add a dose of inspiration and motivation. [Sidenote: Can someone just start paying me for my IG stories? Seriously, I want it to be my full-time.] I like to stay active and busy. I get a dopamine rush when I hit my 10,000 steps before lunchtime. I love projects, but also kind of hate them, but love them. I enjoy hosting friends and family. I also have a secret, I like quiet, stillness and napping.

Naps should not be shamed they should be celebrated because our bodies are able to recover when we rest. So this is me coming clean and celebrating!

Harnessing that quietness from within is one of the most powerful tools we have as evolved humans. No one can take a break for you. No one tap into the answers held inside your subconsciousness except you. So, stop, listen and if you fall asleep while listening, your mind will work it out while your body rests. Aren’t we amazing?

Skipping out on sleep can cause disruptions in your circadian rhythms, which can
increase inflammation in the body and create conditions conducive to weight gain.
Sleep deprivation also causes your body to produce more ghrelin, the hormone
that signals you to eat. Sleeping promotes creativity and reduces stress so take a load off, Fanny.

It wasn’t until recently that I realized that showcasing all the verby-verbs in my life, all the busyness I thrive on; cooking, projects, workouts, and dancing (so much dancing) may lead to the idea that I never sit still and rest. I nap every once in a while and it’s glor-i-ous. Bonus when I get a kid or husband to snuggle me. Double bonus if I think ahead and start a crock-pot and wake up from my nap smelling a ready-to-eat dinner. Triple bonus if no butts need to be wiped, and no one whines during my essential sleep that I require to be a happy Mommy. That’s a damn good rest sesh.

You get to do both. Your body is designed to do one because of the other. Work then rest. Dance then drool in your peaceful sleep with your dog snoring beside you.

I napped and I should have told you.
